A few days after winning the 2015 Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a comedy, a new movie has come out that might change everything.
Sara Jean Underwood, best known for her roles in the HBO series The Wire and her Broadway musical, has been in talks with Lionsgate to play the role of a high-society executive in a film based on her memoirs.
Underwood, who is also married to her longtime producer and actor husband, Paul Haggis, has not made an announcement about her film yet, but the star has recently said she’s “very interested” in doing the film.
In the book, Underwood describes her upbringing in a Chicago neighborhood of mostly white, middle-class families that were mostly supportive of her efforts to be a feminist.
She described her experiences with being the victim of abuse and the loss of her mother, who died at the age of 50 from cancer.
As part of the negotiations, Lionsgate and Underwood are working on a deal with a new company to release the film in the United States.
Lionsgate will distribute domestically.
Haggis is currently in talks to direct a sequel to his hit movie about a high school football player who is accused of murdering a woman in the same neighborhood in which Underwood grew up.
The actor is also the executive producer of a new feature film called The Lady in the Water, which he is attached to write.
Underwood and Haggs have been friends since the 1980s, when they both appeared on NBC’s The Good Wife.
The pair are still friends.
