A man who fell to his death after a fall from a rock in New York City was suffering from severe injuries and had recently had a history of drinking, according to police and the family of the man who was injured.
The 41-year-old man, who was identified by his initials as A.J., was reported missing on Sunday by a man who said he was the victim of a hit and run.
The victim’s brother and an acquaintance told ABC News that the victim, who has a history on charges of domestic violence and assault, was found by a friend of his in a nearby apartment and suffered injuries that included a fractured skull and serious injuries to his body.
Police said they believe the man was on a date at the time of the fall and the man did not know the victim’s name.
Police said A.S. was taken to Bellevue Hospital and died of his injuries at 8:30 a.m.
His death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
According to his brother, A.P. is a hard-working man who worked as a dishwasher in the area and was always looking out for others.
His brother told ABC that the family was devastated by the news and said A., who was a proud member of the New York Knicks, would have been proud to be a part of their franchise.
“He was always trying to be better than everyone else, and it’s just tragic that he just fell,” his brother said.
Police have not released details about the man’s condition.
